Inward Obedience of the Heart

Hello my dear friends!

It's been a while since the last Spoonful was sent out, but don't think that means that nothing has been happening on theshovel.net. Believe it or not, I did send out a Shoveletter (yeah, the first one since December of 2010) that's entitled God, the Avenger. That was sent out earlier this month. Adam and I are still recording Shovel Audios as we continue on in our discussion through Hebrews. If you haven't listened to any of these audios, you might be pleasantly surprised. Then again, you may get some of your doctrinal feathers ruffled ... at least I hope so! LOL. Currently, we're taking a detour into a study of obedience, a detour that begged for attention from the verse, "And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation" (Hebrews 5:9). Of course, once you start listening, you will discover that this is a study of the truth of obedience as it is seen in the letter of Romans. Please join us.

Inward Obedience

The inward obedience of the heart is the true stuff of life in Christ. This is the very reality of our freedom in Christ that not only gets ignored ... but condemned. Never forget that religious man - even the Christian religious man - still looks on the outward appearance, despite the fact that he can quote the verse about how God looks on the heart. Jesus Christ has turned everything upside down for us.
My desire is that you will be blessed with the continuing reality that ... "God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God."

As always ... I sure would love to hear from a few more of you. It would be nice to know if you're encouraged by what I put out. Thanks!

i don’t know why, but the rest of my post kept getting left off, so i copied and pasted it below and added it here: AMEN AMEN and AMEN!! and thank GOD!!  :) the inward obedience of the heart. that stony heart is no more, having been transformed into the living heart of flesh as GOD so intended.  :) that heart that agrees with the Spirit concerning all things pertaining to GOD.  :) that heart that no longer lives by sight, but by the faith of Christ. that heart of whose hope is in the unseen, no longer bound by seeing as eyes that are blind, nor bound by the hope-less heart that is stone.  :) this is encouraging stuff indeed!  :) encouraging, encouraging, encouraging! :)

Having been for quite some time in the past an attender of a church that made a BIG thing of obedience (to THEM as well as to God), I am a bit sensitive in this area. I had to look it up. Here is the verse with Strong’s numbers: Hebrews 5:9(KJV) And G2532 being made perfect, G5048 he became G1096 the author G159 of eternalG166 salvation G4991 unto all G3956 them that obey G5219 him; G846 G5219 hupakouo From G5259 and G191; to hear under (as a subordinate), that is, to listen attentively; by implication to heed or conform to a command or authority: - hearken, be obedient to, obey. So, if I understand what this verse is saying, the focus is on the listening…listening attentively…heed…something quite different from a slavish obedience without any room for questions. What a relief! (Tom Schultz www.revisitingscripture.com/)

i agree!!!!

Random Shovelquote: Only the New Creation in Christ (view all shovelquotes)

In Christ there is neither insider nor outsider, there is neither center nor fringe, there is neither status-quo nor non-conformist! There is only the new creation.   source
