Still flipping through those paper pages? Want to search the Bible online ... or on a downloaded Bible program? There are quite a few resources out there that I've run across that I'll use from time to time.
BIBLE GATEWAY I've used this online resource a lot! You can choose from 18 different versions. There are also enough lexicons, commentaries, etc to turn anybody into fire-breathing, legalistic, Bible fanatic!! hehe! Knock yourself out. :) The page I've bookmarked at Biblegateway.com - the advanced search set on the NASB - can be accessed through the Biblegateway logo below.
E-SWORD I just happened upon this site and downloaded this program recently after reading this write up:
"E-Sword has got to be the most amazing free Bible software program ever invented! This is no exaggeration. E-Sword is loaded with commentaries, dictionaries, atlas maps, graphics, e-books, and a huge variety of different translations and versions of the Bible. You can download the program and all the additional features you want FREE right from the site or you can order a CD from the developer, Rick Meyers, for a small donation."
I thought, "Okay, might be worth a look." ... and I gotta say this is one amazing program ... as you can add on the versions and extras you want. There are a few add-ons you have to pay for (like my own personal favorite - the NASB - New American Standard Bible), but aside from that everything else is all offered for free! Of course I had to be a geek and download way more add-ons than I could possibly ever use in a milion, zillion years. haha! Hmmm ... I may abandon the above online Bible after this! :) The logo link below will take you directly to the download page.
THE NET BIBLE A recently discovered new translation for me. Though I had heard its title before I didn't check it out until lately. Truthfully, I haven't even read through much of it, but I may very well start using it for my quotes as there is no restriction on its use as with most other translations (a certain number or percentage of any given writing, which I have not as yet reached to my knowledge). This new translation is a completely "new" translation, in that it is not a reworking of any previous translation ... and it is still in "Beta" - i.e. they are still making some revisions - and plan to continue to regularly update it in the coming years. So far, I like the premise.
HOLMAN CHRISTIAN STANDARD BIBLE Sherri recently found this little gem for me. Here's their own write-up on this new version:
Broadman & Holman Publishers is proud to sponsor the development of the all-new Holman Christian Standard Bible translation (Holman CSB). This fresh rendering of God's Word is translated directly from the original biblical languages with a reader-friendly style geared to contemporary English usage. The approach of combining accuracy and clarity makes the Holman CSB a translation that any reader can enjoy.
Looks promising. :)
BIBLE TOOLBAR FOR FIREFOX BROWSER If you use the Firefox browser there is a handy little toolbar extension that adds a toolbar for quick and easy access to Biblegateway.com. If you don't use Firefox this might add yet another reason to try it. :)
